WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
Having learnt his trade with roofers in Surrey and Wiltshire, Andy King started his own roofing contracting business in 1979, from a small rented yard in Semington, Wiltshire.
Roofing Contractors Division
Having soon made a name for himself within the roofing industry locally, carrying out most types of roofing works from new roofs, to a strip and re-tile, the business began to rapdily expand. He bought his own yard, constructed a small office and employed a full-time Secretary. By this time the workforce and customer base had increased and the working area had expanded to Wiltshire and surrounding counties.
In 1993 an Estimator was employed on a part-time basis, very quickly becoming full-time. The work force had risen to an average of 30 men and to service them, a lorry was purchased and a full time driver engaged.
With the business still expanding A L King Roofing became a Limited Company in 1997. The Roofing Contracting Division was doing well.
However, logistics were becoming a constant problem. The nearest, reasonably sized Roofing Merchants were in Swindon and Bristol, which meant having to make long trips to pick up materials, taking valuable time, and of course having cost implications. If this was the situation for A L King Roofing, then it must be the same for the majority of smaller roofing firms in the area.

Roofing Merchants Division
To enhance the Roofing Contracting Division and assist in making it more competitive, Andy considered expanding the already flourishing business by opening a Roofing Merchants Division.
In the summer of 2000, A L King Roofing Ltd moved to larger premises, consisting of an office building, large yard area and yard office, with some small storage buildings. With the yard stocked with an extensive range of roofing products, the yard office turned into a shop for tools and protective clothing and the like, a Manager was employed and A L King Roofing Ltd Roofing Merchants Division opened its doors for business in September 2000,
To service the success of this venture, an additional member of staff was employed, together with a 17.5 tonne lorry with Hyab.
With the business going from strength to strength, A L King Roofing Ltd invested in land at Hampton Park West, Melksham, Wiltshire. Construction of a new office, warehouse and yard began in September 2007 and by early January 2008, A L King Roofing Ltd Roofing Contracting Division and Roofing Merchants Division moved to their new home.
PRESENT DAY
Today, A L King Roofing Ltd has over 45 Employees and Sub Contractors, working together in servicing all your roofing requirements from Roofing Contracting projects in Wiltshire and surrounding counties, to supplying Roofing Products.
